Cultural notes
Iwai-bu Shrine is famous for its numerous fox statues, believed to be sacred messengers of Inari Okami. According to local legend, a fox appeared at the shrine in 1693 and offered to guide villagers to better rice yields, leading to the deity's association with agriculture.

The shrine was originally established in the Edo period (1603-1867), but its origins date back to the Heian period (794-1185).
