Located in Ishikawa Prefecture, Eight Great Dragons Palace Hall is a sacred Shinto site dedicated to the enshrined kami of Ryujin, the Dragon God. This ancient temple complex honors the eight dragons that are believed to have shaped Japan's coastline and islands.

Visitor tip

Visitors can purify their hands at the nearby temizuya, a traditional Shinto water basin, before entering the shrine to ensure a clean and respectful experience.

Cultural notes

Ryujin is also revered as the patron deity of fishermen and sailors. During the annual Obon festival, lanterns adorned with Ryujin's image are displayed along the shrine's pathways, symbolizing the dragon god's guidance for safe navigation.

Historical note

The shrine was founded in the Heian period (794-1185 CE), during the reign of Emperor Saga.
