神之原八幡宮 is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Sasebo, Saga Prefecture. The shrine is dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto, one of the most important deities in Shintoism, and is also associated with the god of wind, Hikobosato-no-Kami. The shrine's main hall, Torii, dates back to the 17th century, and its architecture reflects the traditional Japanese style known as Karasuma-zukuri. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll through the shrine's gardens, which feature a variety of plants and trees native to Japan.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Susanoo-no-Mikoto is also associated with the legend of the eight-spoon battle, where he defeated his brother Hachiman. The shrine's festival, held in December, features traditional dances and music to honor Susanoo-no-Mikoto's role as a god of storms.

The shrine was founded in 1684 by the Tokugawa shogunate, making it one of the oldest shrines in Saga Prefecture.
