Cultural notes
The shrine has a long history of connections with the local Tosa Kingdom, and it is said to be the place where the legendary founder of the kingdom, King Shōtai, was born. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in May, featuring traditional dances and offerings to Inari Okami.
Historical note
The shrine was founded during the Edo period (1603-1867), when it was known as 'Nishinoshima', but the current name "Tosa no Saki" is believed to have been given during the Meiji period (1868-1912).
