Located in the city of Kanazawa, Eight Halls Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god Susanoo-no-Mikoto and the god Inari Okami. The shrine is famous for its eight halls, which represent the eight virtues of the Buddha's teachings, and its distinctive eight-sided torii gate. Built in 1598 during the Momotaro Era of the Toyotomi clan, the shrine has undergone several renovations over the centuries and features a unique blend of Edo-period architectural styles.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Eight Halls Shrine is closely associated with the legend of Momotaro, the Peach Boy, who was said to have been born from a peach that had fallen from heaven and brought prosperity to the shrine. The shrine also hosts the annual Eight Halls Festival in November, which features traditional dances and performances.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 1637 during the Genroku period.
