Established in 645 CE, Ryojo Taisha is one of the oldest shrines in Japan, originally dedicated to Emperor Sushun and dedicated to Emperor Kanmu in 762 CE. Located on Mount Katsuragawa in Shiga Prefecture, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The shrine's name "Ryoo" reflects its role as a spiritual center for the Imperial Family. The shrine complex features various structures including the Haiden main hall, the Shinden-zukuri halls, and the Heiden altar.
