Ise Grand Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Sayama, Saitama Prefecture. It is one of the most important and influential shrines in Japan, known as a 'dai-gōji' (great deity shrine). The shrine is famous for its well-preserved Heian-era buildings, including the main hall (honden) and the outer shrine halls (haiden). Ise Shrine is dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu Ōmikami, who is considered the most important deity in the Shinto pantheon.

Visitor tip
To avoid long lines, visit the shrine early in the morning or later in the afternoon. Be sure to show respect by bowing upon entering and departing the main hall.
Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its 'Ninna-ji' garden, which features a beautiful Zen-style landscape with moss-covered rocks and a peaceful atmosphere. During the 'Setsubun' festival in February, visitors throw soybeans to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck.
