Located in the city of Maibara, Shiga Prefecture, Ifu Miyajima Shrine is dedicated to the god of war, Susanoo-no-mikoto, and the god of wisdom, Inari Okami. The shrine's architecture reflects a mix of traditional and modern styles, with a distinctive vermilion torii gate and a beautiful garden. Cultural notes

This shrine is associated with the legend of Susanoo-no-mikoto, who was said to have been banished from heaven for his misbehavior. Inari Okami, the god of wisdom and rice, is also revered here as a patron deity. The shrine's name "Ifu Miyajima" refers to its location on a small island in Lake Biwa.

Historical note

The shrine was originally built in the Heian period, but it has undergone numerous renovations and restorations over the centuries. In the Edo period, the shrine was rebuilt and expanded to become one of the major shrines in the region.
