愛宕神社

Aomori

Love Temple Shrine, located in Aomori Prefecture, is dedicated to Setsuna no Seimu, a Shinto deity of the sea and storms. The shrine's architecture reflects its coastal location with a distinctive curved design reminiscent of a boat. Inari Okunoin, a subsidiary shrine dedicated to Inari Ōkami, lies nearby.

Cultural notes

Setsuna no Seimu is revered as a protector of fishermen and sailors. During the annual Setsubun Festival in February, visitors can participate in bean-throwing rituals to ward off evil spirits.

Historical note

The current shrine was rebuilt in 1990 after being destroyed by fire in 1983.
