Visitor tip

For a unique visitor experience, walk along the serene Agi River and take in the natural scenery before visiting the shrine.

Cultural notes

The Rocky Valley Shrine is closely associated with the local legend of the samurai who was granted immortality after praying at this very site. During the autumn season, visitors can participate in the Otsukimai festival, where they offer small wooden tablets inscribed with their wishes to the kami.

Historical note

Established in 1591, the shrine was rebuilt after being destroyed during the Genpei War.
