Located in the heart of Akita, Kinryu-no-Okami Jinja is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to Kinryu-no-Okami, the Dragon God of Water and Agriculture. This shrine dates back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE) and is known for its beautiful architecture and scenic surroundings. The shrine complex features a five-story pagoda, wooden torii gate, and a tranquil pond with a waterfall.

Cultural notes
As a shrine dedicated to Kinryu-no-Okami, the Dragon God of Water and Agriculture, it is customary for visitors to bring offerings of sake, rice, and seaweed during the autumn festival (Kinryu no Matsuri) in October. The shrine is also known for its unique 'sento' (public bathhouse) facilities nearby.
Historical note
Kinryu-no-Okami Jinja was rebuilt in the Kamakura period (1185-1333 CE) after being destroyed by fire during the Genpei War.
