Cultural notes
Shinshoji Shrine is connected to the mythology of Sugawara no Michiie, a renowned literary figure who was said to have possessed exceptional knowledge and wisdom. According to legend, Michiie was invited to the imperial court by Emperor Saicho and was tasked with composing poetry in honor of the emperor's birthday. The shrine still holds annual festivals in his honor, including the 'Sugawara no Michiie Festival,' which takes place on the 15th day of the third month.
