Mitsumata Shrine, located in Hirosaki Park, Aomori Prefecture, is dedicated to the Shinto deity of agriculture, sake, and fertility, Inari, as well as the legendary fisherman who saved a village from a giant wave, Ōishicho (also known as Ōishibō or Ōishi).

Visit during cherry blossom season to witness the stunning bloom of over 800 cherry blossom trees surrounding the shrine.

Cultural notes

This shrine is deeply connected to the mythological fisherman, Ōishicho. According to local legend, a giant wave threatened to destroy the village, but Ōishicho bravely fought it off with his sword. The shrine honors his bravery and provides protection for the surrounding community.
