Cultural notes

As one of Japan's oldest shrines, Sanzen no Mori Shrine is associated with the mythology surrounding Mount Haku, a nearby mountain said to be the dwelling place of the Three Mountains. The shrine also hosts an annual autumn festival, where locals and visitors alike come to celebrate the harvest season.

Founded during the Nara period in 741 CE by Prince Tamehito, a grandson of Emperor Shōmu.
