Cultural notes
滝山神社 is closely associated with the legend of Urashima Taro, a fisherman who fell in love with a princess from the underwater kingdom of Ryujin. According to myth, the shrine's torii gate was built by Urashima Taro himself as a reward for his kindness and bravery.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1869 after being destroyed during the Boshin War.
