Located in the city of Gokurakuji, Shiga Prefecture, Matsuo Taishōjin Matsuo Daisan Shrine is one of Japan's oldest and most revered shrines dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. The shrine's architecture reflects its historical significance, with a traditional Horyu-ji style main hall constructed in 751 AD during the Nara period. Over time, the shrine has been rebuilt and expanded numerous times, including a notable reconstruction during the Kamakura period.

Visitor tip
