Cultural notes

The shrine is closely tied to the legend of Naruto Udelta, the legendary founder of the city. According to myth, Udelta was once a mortal who was transformed into a giant turtle after discovering the power of the Eight deities. This legend highlights the significance of the shrine's eight enshrined kami.

Historical note

Founded in 718 AD during the Asuka period, it was originally known as 'Otoba-hokora' but was later renamed to its current name.
