Tree Root Inari Shrine is located in the city of Nagahama, Shiga Prefecture, and is dedicated to Inari Okami, the deity of rice, fertility, and prosperity. The shrine's name reflects its association with trees, as it was founded on a site where a sacred tree stood. According to local legend, the tree was planted by a samurai warrior who wanted to honor the god Inari after a victory in battle.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

This shrine is famous for its ' Tree Root' symbol, which represents the connection between nature and human life. Inari is also celebrated at this shrine with the annual 'Inari Matsuri' festival in September, where participants wear yellow clothing to commemorate their ancestors.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in 1657 after a devastating fire destroyed the original structure.
