Higashi-senju-ji Hekaku-ji Shinto Shrine, located in Iwami city of Shimane Prefecture, is dedicated to the kami of the sea and prosperity. The shrine was built on the site where a legendary fisherman, named Gennosuke, sacrificed his life to save his family and village from a giant wave. It is said that Gennosuke's spirit was enshrined as Hikoboshi, a kami associated with the god of harvests, prosperity, and fertility. The shrine has undergone several renovations since its founding in 1887 and features traditional Shinto architecture with a distinctive vermilion torii gate. Visitors can honor the shrine by making offerings for good fortune, safe passage on sea voyages, or a successful fishing trip.

Visitor tip
