Shimane

Located in the city of Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, Okugyōji Daijingu Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu and is one of Japan's most famous and historic shrines. Built on the site where the legendary prince Oyome no Sukune was said to have been born, it showcases Heian architectural style with its imposing stone torii gate.

Cultural notes
