Jiangtan Island Yamashita Shrine is located on Jiangtan Island in the Seto Inland Sea, Shizuoka Prefecture. The shrine was originally built at a nearby hilltop location and later moved to its current site. It enshrines Yatagarasu, a powerful three-headed kami, and is famous for its role in Japanese folklore and as a scenic island destination.

Visitor tip

The shrine is associated with the legend of Yatagarasu, a giant bird said to have helped Jimonno, a legendary Japanese hero, defeat his enemies. Locals believe that on certain days, visitors can see Yatagarasu soaring above the island.
