三嶋神社

Located in the scenic town of Saitama, Isumi-ku, Chiba Prefecture, is the Shinto shrine of Sanefusa-san (also known as Sanefu), a kami enshrined at this site since ancient times. The shrine is dedicated to Sanefu's role as a protector of fishermen and travelers. Visitors can explore the shrine's traditional torii gate, surrounded by beautiful gardens and scenic views of the nearby ocean.

Cultural notes

Sanefusa-san is said to be the god of safe passage for fishermen. According to legend, Sanefu appeared on a rock in the sea and guided a group of sailors safely back to shore after a fierce storm.

Founded in the Heian period (794-1185 CE), Sanefusa-san Shrine has been an important site for locals and sailors for centuries.
