Cultural notes

The Eightfold Shrine is closely associated with the mythology of Amaterasu, who is said to have hidden in a cave at the foot of Mount Aso. This legend is often connected with the shrine's unique architectural style, which features a distinctive ' eight-tiered' roof design inspired by Mount Aso.
