Dayotsu Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Katsuyama, Shiga Prefecture, dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu (Toshitsutsu), as well as Enma Daiō and Ryujin, and other kami. The shrine's main hall, Haiden, features a vermilion torii gate and is adorned with a beautiful wooden roof. Dayotsu Shrine has been an important pilgrimage site since its founding in the 7th century.

Visitor tip
For a more authentic experience, try visiting the shrine during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) and participate in the traditional tea ceremony at the shrine's Omotesenbei.

Dayotsu Shrine is known for its unique architectural style, which blends traditional Shinto elements with regional influences. The shrine is also famous for its beautiful autumn foliage and annual festivals, including the Engetsu Matsuri (Moon Festival) in July and the Aoi Matsuri (Red Leaf Festival) in November.
