Mountain Shrine is one of the oldest shrines in the Kansai region, with a history dating back over 1,000 years. Located at the foot of Mt. Atago, it was originally dedicated to the worship of the mountain's patron deity, the Shinto god of fire and fertility. Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Mountain Shrine is famous for its unique 'tori-kamaboko' festival, where a giant fish-shaped torii gate is displayed on the grounds. This festival is said to have originated in the Edo period and is still celebrated today.
Historical note
The shrine was re-established in 1623 after being destroyed during the Genroku period.
