Visitor tip
Bring a gift of rice or sake to make an offering at the shrine's front entrance, and take a stroll along the nearby Oizumi River for scenic views.
Cultural notes
Located near the ancient capital town of Sainokawara, the shrine is said to have been founded in 744 CE during the Nara period. The primary deity Susanoo no Mikoto is also revered at other shrines throughout Japan, including Ise Grand Shrine and Misaka Shrine.
