Visitor tip

To fully experience the shrine's unique bathing culture, visitors can soak in the natural hot springs at Godai Shrine's outdoor bathhouse, 'Godai-tsumi-yu'

Cultural notes

In accordance with Shinto tradition, visitors are expected to remove their shoes before entering the shrine grounds and perform a traditional purification ritual called 'misogi'. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in May to celebrate the arrival of spring and the blessings of the kami.

Historical note

The shrine was founded during the Kamakura period (1185-1333) as a sacred site for the worship of Shinto deities related to fertility and prosperity.
