Visitor tip
Visit during cherry blossom season (late April to early May) for beautiful views of the surrounding park and a chance to participate in traditional festival activities.
Cultural notes
Located near the site where Shinko was said to have appeared to the god of Akita, this shrine is famous for its beautiful gardens and the legend that its founder's spirit still lives on within its walls. The Enma no Oto bell is rung every day at noon by a temple affiliated with the shrine.
Historical note
Founded during the Edo period in 1642 by Lord Nariakira Yamauchi of the Date clan.
