Hosshinmon-oji

発心門王子跡;Hosshinmon-oji

Nara

Located along the ancient Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes, this sacred site serves as one of the important *oji* (subsidiary shrines) that guided pilgrims on their spiritual journey to the Kumano Sanzan. The shrine traditionally honored protective kami who watched over travelers and pilgrims seeking spiritual awakening, with "Hosshinmon" meaning "Gate of Awakening Religious Mind." Visitors today come to pay respects at this historic waystation and seek blessings for their own spiritual journeys, whether continuing along the World Heritage pilgrimage trail or pursuing personal enlightenment.
