高取大明神

高取大明神 is a Shinto shrine located in the Kita-ku district of Osaka, known for its historical significance and unique architecture. The shrine is dedicated to the deity Amaterasu Ōmikami, but also enshrines several local kami, including the prominent god Takemitsu no Kami. Visitors can explore the shrine's traditional Japanese garden and observe the iconic torii gate.

Visitor tip

Visitors are advised to ring the temple bell three times to purify themselves before entering the shrine.

Cultural notes

High Take Shrine is famous for its 'take no hiroba' where only people who bow and pray can enter. The shrine also holds a bi-annual festival in May and October, known as 'Takemitsu no Matsuri', which celebrates the deity's connection to local farmers.
