Located in the city of Kuwana, Shizuoka Prefecture, Godaidan Inari Shrine is one of Japan's most famous Shinto shrines dedicated to the god of rice and industry. The shrine is renowned for its vermilion torii gate and rows of thousands of vermilion gates called 'fushimi' that form a tunnel leading to the main hall. Visitors can walk through the fushimi, making wishes and prayers as they pass.

Visitor tip
To experience the shrine's tranquil atmosphere, visit early in the morning or late in the evening when the sun is not too high or too low. Also, don't forget to purchase a packet of rice balls (chankonabe) at the nearby food stalls to enjoy during your visit.

Godaidan Inari Shrine is closely associated with the mythology of rice and industry, as well as the Shinto god of agriculture, Amaterasu. The shrine's vermilion color is said to ward off evil spirits, and visitors often pray for success in business or trade by tying ribbons with their wishes attached.

The shrine was originally built in 733 AD during the Nara period, but it has undergone many renovations and expansions throughout its history.
