Historical note

The shrine is believed to have ancient origins, established to honor Emperor Ojin who ruled in the early 5th century and later became venerated as the Shinto deity Hachiman. Like many Hachiman shrines throughout Japan, Tamoto Shrine represents the syncretic tradition of imperial ancestor worship within Shinto practice.
