Cultural notes
As a coastal shrine, Daishin Shrine is closely associated with Yatagarasu, the three-legged crow kami said to have guided the sun goddess Amaterasu out of the underworld. Visitors can participate in the annual Summer Solstice Festival (Sakamatsuri), where offerings are made to Yatagarasu and other sea deities.
Historical note
The shrine was originally established as a local temple during the Heian period, but it gained greater significance in the Kamakura period when it became an important Shinto shrine.
