大神宮

Kanagawa

Located in Kamakura, great-torii gate of the Meiji period, and surrounded by nature and a sacred forest. Located at the foot of Takao mountain, with beautiful views of the sea. The large stone statue of Amaterasu Omikami is located inside the shrine grounds.

Visitor tip

For a unique experience, visit early in the morning to see the shrine before sunrise, when the morning fog creates a mystical atmosphere.

Cultural notes

As one of the most important Shinto shrines dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami, the deities of the sun and the heavens. Also known as Takao-yama Hachiman-gu, it is famous for its beautiful garden and natural surroundings.
