Located in the city of Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, Kinshachi-ro Shrine is a Shinto temple dedicated to Kinshachi, the god of fishermen and sailors. The shrine is situated on the shores of Kawasaki Bay and features traditional Japanese architecture with a tatami-matted main hall and a wooden veranda. The shrine's history dates back to 1682, during the Edo period, when it was built as a humble shrine by a local fisherman's guild. Over time, the shrine has undergone several renovations and expansions, including the addition of a new gate and a vermilion torii gate.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Kinshachi-ro Shrine is said to be the former resting place of Kinshachi, who was believed to have possessed supernatural strength. According to legend, Kinshachi saved a local fisherman from drowning by lifting him onto dry land using only his magical powers. Locals still pray at the shrine for protection and safe returns from fishing expeditions.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1889 after being damaged during a typhoon.
