Located in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, the Inari Daikagami Shrine is one of Japan's most famous Shinto shrines, dedicated to the deity Inari Okami, the patron god of rice, industry, and commerce. Cultural notes
Inari is often depicted with fox spirits (kitsune), which are believed to be his messengers and attendants. The shrine also hosts several festivals throughout the year, including the Inari Matsuri festival in May, where devotees carry sacred rice bundles up the mountain to ensure a bountiful harvest.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire during the Genpei War in the 12th century.
