Kanda Myojin Shrine is famous for its association with the legendary poet and musician, Minamoto no Yoshitsune. According to legend, Yoshitsune was born in the shrine's grounds and would often play his oiran (a type of Japanese lute) for the kami. The shrine's many festivals celebrate this connection, including the Cherry Blossom Festival and the Star Festival.
