Located in the heart of Tokyo, Yakushiji Shrine is one of Japan's oldest and most revered Shinto shrines, dedicated to the healing kami Yakushi Nyoi-tōjin. Founded during the Nara period (710-794 CE), the shrine has been rebuilt several times due to fires and wars, with its current structure dating back to the Edo period (1603-1867 CE). Visitors can walk through the serene gardens and admire the iconic five-story pagoda, which houses a museum showcasing the history of Japanese medicine.

Visitor tip
