熊野神社

Saitama

Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, located in the city of Kiryuu, Gunma Prefecture, is one of Japan's most famous Shinto shrines. In contrast to other Shinto sites, Kunozan Toshogu is not located in Saitama, but rather in Gunma. However, there is a shrine with a similar name: 熊野神社, located in Saitama Prefecture.

Visitor tip

To fully appreciate the shrine's architecture, visit during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) when the surrounding trees are in bloom.

Cultural notes

Kunozan Toshogu Shrine is famous for its association with Minamoto no Yoritomo, the founder of the Kamakura shogunate. The shrine's design and architecture reflect this connection. As for 熊野神社 in Saitama, little information could be found.
