柿本神社 is a Shinto shrine located in Osaka Prefecture, dedicated to the kami of the same name. The shrine is known for its unique architecture and historical significance as a major stop on the famous Nakasendo Road, which connected Kyoto to Tokyo during the Edo period. According to legend, the shrine was founded by a 7th-century prince who fell in love with a woman from a lower social class and was forced to abandon her after his parents disapproved of their relationship. The shrine is said to be the site where he found solace and prayed for forgiveness.

Visitor tip
To avoid crowds, visit the shrine at dawn or late in the afternoon when the sun is not too high. Bring a small gift of sake or mochi to offer to the kami as a sign of respect.
