Cultural notes

Akibayashi Shrine is famous for its numerous fox spirits (Kitsune) that are believed to inhabit the area. According to legend, the shrine's Inari Okami god is particularly fond of foxes and has a special affinity with them.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in 1888 after being destroyed by an earthquake.
