Niigata

Located in the mountains of Niigata Prefecture, Tonboji-temple, not to be confused with Tonboji, is actually a Shinto temple dedicated to Sontoku-inari, but that isn't the Tonboji I am talking about. The Tonboji I have found is in Hataemachi, and not much is available for this shrine.

Religion
shinto

Visitor tip

For a more authentic experience, visit during the spring cherry blossom season, as many of the surrounding trees bloom around late April to early May.

Historical note

Tonboji-temple was built in 1614.
