Benzaiten, the Shinto goddess of beauty, music, and poetry, is enshrined at Abukuma Benzaiten Grand Shrine in Abukuma-ku, Ibaraki Prefecture. The current shrine was built in 1952, but its history dates back to the Edo period. Visitors can admire the beautiful garden and traditional Japanese architecture.

Visitor tip
To fully appreciate the shrine's garden, visit at sunrise or sunset when possible, as this allows for better viewing of the vibrant autumn colors during fall season.
Cultural notes
Benzaiten is often depicted with a beauty mark and is associated with the arts and entertainment. The shrine also celebrates its own festival, Benzaiten Matsuri, in May to honor the goddess.

The current shrine was rebuilt after a fire in 1951.
