Tennosei Shrine, located in Osaka Prefecture, is a Shinto temple dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period style, with a rectangular hall and a large torii gate. Visitors can experience the unique tradition of 'omiyage' by taking a small portion of the shrine's sacred rice as a souvenir.

Visitor tip

To respect the shrine's traditions, please do not take pictures inside the main hall, and refrain from eating or drinking within the precincts.

Cultural notes

Tennosei Shrine is connected to the mythology of Amaterasu, who was said to have descended upon the earth during a visit to her younger sister, Kaguya-hime. The shrine also hosts a festival in September to celebrate the arrival of autumn and the harvest season.
