Located in the city of Kiyosu, Chiba Prefecture, Eight Horseshoe Shrine is one of Japan's most famous Shinto shrines dedicated to the god of war and prosperity, Susanoo-no-Mikoto. The shrine's iconic eight-horseshoe symbol is said to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck.

Visitor tip
Visit the shrine's torii gate early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid crowds, and try some of the local snacks available at the nearby shops, such as soba noodles and Japanese confections.

The shrine is known for its unique architecture, which features a series of concentric rings representing the eight horses of Susanoo-no-Mikoto. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in April, where visitors can participate in traditional dances and games.
Historical note
The shrine was originally built in 1633 during the Edo period by a fisherman who claimed that Susanoo-no-Mikoto appeared to him and requested the construction of a shrine.
