Tenshū-ma-shū, located in the heart of Kitatōshi district in Saitama, is a revered Shinto shrine that has been a vital part of the community since its founding in the 12th century. The shrine is dedicated to the kami Inari Okami and is known for its beautiful architecture and rich cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the shrine's peaceful grounds, which feature several traditional shrines, including the main Tenshū-den hall, as well as numerous vermilion torii gates and beautifully landscaped gardens.

Visitor tip
To avoid long lines, visit Tenshū-ma-shū early in the morning or later in the evening when it's less crowded. Be sure to bring a small offering of rice grains and pray for good luck!
Cultural notes
Tenshū-ma-shū is closely associated with the mythology of Inari Okami, the Shinto kami of rice, fertility, and prosperity. The shrine is also famous for its traditional 'tsukubai' (water basin) where visitors can purify their hands before entering the main hall.
Historical note
The shrine was originally built during the Kamakura period (1185–1333) by the local lord of Kitatōshi district.
