中條神社

Nagano

Located in the town of Kakunodate, Nagano Prefecture, Chitosegashi Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari Okami, the god of rice and fertility. The shrine is famous for its vermilion torii gate and beautiful gardens. It is said to be one of the oldest shrines in Japan, with records dating back to 1592.

Visitor tip

To experience the shrine's peaceful atmosphere, visit during cherry blossom season (March-April) and take a stroll through the beautifully landscaped gardens.

Cultural notes

Chitosegashi Shrine is closely associated with the mythology of Inari Okami, who is said to reside in the nearby mountains. During the spring festival, called 'Shinbun Matsuri', visitors can enjoy traditional dances and performances celebrating the arrival of spring.
