Cultural notes
Inari is often depicted as a fox spirit, known as Inari Okami no Kitsune, which is revered for its wisdom and fertility. The shrine's altars are decorated with rice baskets and woven straw bags, which are said to be offerings to the deity. During the autumn moon festival, visitors can pray for good luck and prosperity by leaving offerings of rice and other foodstuffs.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after being destroyed during the Genpei War in the late 12th century.
