Dewa Sanzan Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Yamagata Prefecture, dedicated to the deities of the Dewa region. The shrine complex consists of three smaller shrines, each representing one of the peaks of Mount Dewa. Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Historical note
The shrine was originally built in 720 AD during the Nara period as a memorial to Prince Shotoku, who played a key role in introducing Buddhism to Japan.
