Inari Okappi Shrine in Aomori is one of the most famous Shinto shrines dedicated to Inari, the god of rice, fertility, and prosperity. Built on the site where a local woman prayed for better luck, the shrine has been rebuilt multiple times due to fires and floods. The current structure dates back to 1708 and features a unique architectural style with vermilion torii gates and distinctive shōen gardens.

Inari Okappi Shrine plays a significant role in Aomori's annual Cherry Blossom Festival and is known for its unique 'monkey business', where devotees tie red strings to wooden statues of Inari's messengers, believed to be mischievous monkeys. This tradition symbolizes the bond between humans and the kami.
